Selling (13) bred heifers consisting of:
(1) Angus
(9) 1/2 Braunvieh, 1/2 Angus
(1) 1/2 Braunvieh, 1/4 Angus, 1/4 Senepol
(2) 1/2 Braunvieh, 3/8 Angus, 1/8 Senepol
bred to calve starting in early January. 11 of these heifers were checked pregnant by ultrasound to be bred to N Bar Primetime D806 from ABS. He is their premier heifer bull that they now
have available in their inventory. EPDs on the bull are CE +14, BW -1.7, WW +28, YW +62,
Milk +18. He should give very easy calving. They are now with the cleanup bull and we will recheck them before the sale. The two not bred AI should be bred to the cleanup bull who also has good numbers for use on heifers. CEFS is the "Center for Environmental Farming Systems" and is located on the Cherry Research Farm in Goldsboro. We maintain a 100 cow commercial
herd there and for 6 years did a comparison between Angus and Senepol as sire breeds. The cow herd is now either straight Angus; 1/2 Angus, ½ Senepol; or 3/4 Angus, 1/4 Senepol.
We now have gone to a new project where we are breeding the mature cows to
either Angus or Braunvieh, so the calves are either straight Angus; ½ Angus, 1/2 Braunvieh; and then either Angus- or Braunvieh- sired with 1/8 or 1/4 Senepol (and the balance Angus). This is the first set of the Braunvieh sired heifers we have had, and we made the decision not to put any Braunviehs into the cow herd at this time, so these are the 12 top end of the Braunvieh sired heifers. The one straight Angus we are sending is a very nice big heifer, but she is much
bigger frame than the rest of our heifers so my guess is she will fit somewhere else better than she fits our herd. We bred most of the heifers to the N Bar Prime Time D806 bull because he is
supposed to be a super heifer bull and no one should have any problem with
these calving.
